Pest management is an important component of food safety. Though pest occurrence in a food facility or a product is a reputation risk, you must carefully deal with pests around food by using a sound approach. Integrated Pest Management or IPM prevents pest occurrence but also ensures food safety from the pest treatments.

IPM is a process and not a one-time event and relies on chemical pesticides only as one approach to managing pests. IPM focuses on denying food, water, and shelter pests look for at a food factory. The seven steps of IPM are:

7. Documentation
