Coca-Cola India recently introduced a new 1-liter bottle for its packaged drinking water brand Kinley that is constructed entirely from recycled PET, a first for the nation.
India’s current plastic waste legislation originally prohibited the use of recycled material in food contact applications. Since then, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has changed its position: starting in 2022, recycled plastics may be used for “packaging, storing, carrying, or dispensing of food products” after a careful examination of the material in light of food safety considerations and compliance with the guidelines.
